Work Schedule — When Work Meets Home

When your work schedule is part of the family picture.

The work schedule feature lets working parents add their shifts, late nights, and travel to the family calendar — so no one finds out at 5 PM that something changed. It's one fewer assumption the family has to make.

Family Basecamp work tab

In households where one or both parents have variable work schedules, the logistics of knowing who's home when — and who needs to handle what — becomes a recurring coordination problem. The default system is telling people the night before, or sometimes not until it's happening.

The work schedule feature is a dedicated place to enter work commitments in a format the rest of the family can see. Shift start and end times, location or notes, the day of the week. Once it's in, it appears in the family calendar alongside everything else. No assumptions required.

How to add a work schedule

In the Work tab, each parent can build out their weekly schedule — adding shifts with start time, end time, and any relevant notes. Shifts can repeat on the same day each week, or be added one-off for unusual days. Once added, they appear on the family calendar and in the hub display.

If a shift changes — an early leave, a late stay, an unexpected travel day — you update it and the family calendar reflects it immediately. Kids see it. The other parent sees it. The household adjusts accordingly.

"When work is on the family calendar, it stops being a surprise and starts being just part of the week."

What it changes at home

Families who use the work schedule feature consistently report fewer last-minute scrambles. When everyone can see that Wednesday is a late night, dinner planning adjusts. When the kids know the travel schedule in advance, they process it differently than finding out the morning of.

It also distributes the mental load a little differently. When the schedule is visible, it's not one person's job to communicate every change verbally. The information lives somewhere it can be checked.

Extended family and the work view

If you've added extended family members — a grandparent who helps with pickup, an older sibling who covers afternoons — they can see the work schedule too, with whatever access level you've given them. Coordination with the people who support your family's daily logistics gets simpler when everyone is working from the same calendar.
